Boys Coaching Staff
Head Coach-Greg Phillips
Coach Phillips is in his 17th year in secondary education and his fourth year as Athletic Director at Berkmar High School. Before joining the Berkmar family in 2009, he spent the previous four years at Norcross High School, one year at Alpharetta High School in Fulton County, and four years at Kennesaw Mountian High School in Cobb County. An Atlanta native and Lakeside High School graduate, Coach Phillips attended Oglethorpe University here in Atlanta.
At Lakeside Coach Phillips played on two Final Four State Tournament teams, one in basketball and one in tennis. After graduation he went on to join the Stormy Petrel basketball team at Oglethorpe University.
After earning teaching certification, Coach Phillips began his coaching career as the Varsity Assistant Basketball Coach at Kennesaw Mountain and Alpharetta before making his way to Gwinnett and Norcross High School. Competing in Georgia’s largest classification, Norcross finished with three straight State Championships, an Elite 8 appearance, and two Region 5-AAAAA Championships during his four years. In 2006, 2007 and 2008, Coach Phillips earned the AAAAA Assistant Coach of the Year award from the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association as well as the Region 5-AAAAA Assistant Coach of the Year award in 2006 and 2008.
In addition to the varsity’s success, Coach Phillips led the Norcross freshman boys to three straight region championship appearances taking home two titles. In his final season at Norcross, his JV completed a perfect 18-0 undefeated season and a JV region championship.
In his five seasons at Berkmar, Coach Phillips has led the Patriots to five consecutive AAAAAA State Tournament appearances, three Region 8 tournament championships (2011, 2012 & 2014), three 20 win seasons (2011, 2012 & 2014), and three straight AAAAAA Elite 8 appearances (2012 – 2014).
Coach Phillips holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Oglethorpe University. He also holds a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership & Administration from the University of West Georgia and a Specialist degree in Teacher Leadership from North Georgia College.He has a wonderful wife, Joanna Stotter, who he married in April of 2015.

Assistant Coach- Matt Welch
Coach Welch is entering his third year of teaching and coaching at Berkmar. A 2003 Graduate of North Gwinnett High School, Coach Welch played basketball for a nationally ranked team. After his time at North Gwinnett, he attended Valdosta State University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Health & Physical Education. After college he began teaching and coaching at Ashley Ridge High School in Summerville, SC near Charleston. During his 7 years in Summerville, SC he taught PE, coached football, and was the head JV basketball coach as well as the head varsity assistant coach to his brother Brian Welch. Coach Welch led the Ashley Ridge JV boys basketball team to 3 region championships. As a native of Gwinnett County, Coach Welch is extremely excited to return home and help the Berkmar Basketball Program continue their success both on and off the floor.

Assistant Coach- William Kenimer
Born and raised in Oconee County, Ga., Coach Kenimer is entering his second year of teaching at Berkmar High School and entering his first year as a member of the Boys Basketball coaching staff. Coach Kenimer graduated from North Oconee High School in 2007, where he played 3 years of Football, Basketball, and Tennis, and also lettered in Swimming and Cross Country.
Coach Kenimer played college basketball at the junior college level at Truett-McConnell College as well as at the Division II level at Georgia Southwestern State University, highlighted by a trip to the Division II National Tournament. Coach Kenimer graduated from Georgia Southwestern State University with a BS in History and a minor in Education. Coach Kenimer spent two years in the marketing industry working for Hewlett Packard before pursuing his educational and coaching career.
Coach Kenimer currently serves as a Varsity assistant, Junior Varsity assistant, and Freshman assistant for the Berkmar Boys Basketball team.

JV Coach- Jeff Glass
Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Coach Glass is entering his fourth year of coaching and teaching at Berkmar. His first 3 years he coached the 9th Grade team and is moving up to the JV level for his first time this season. Prior to arriving at Berkmar, he graduated from Centennial High School in Roswell, Georgia in 2007 where he played three years of basketball, tennis, and ran cross-country.
Coach Glass attended the University of Georgia for six years where he received his undergraduate degrees in Social Studies Education and History and his Masters degree in Social Studies Education. While at UGA, Coach Glass served as a student assistant for the UGA Men’s basketball team under both head coach Dennis Felton and current UGA head coach Mark Fox for five years, highlighted by a trip to the NCAA Tournament as well as a foreign-tour in Italy. Coach Glass currently serves as Berkmar’s JV head coach as well as one of the Varsity assistant coaches.

9th Grade Coach- David Fleming
Coach Fleming is entering his first year of teaching and coaching at Berkmar High School. A 2001 Graduate of Brookwood High School, Coach Fleming played basketball for a nationally ranked team. After his time at Brookwood, he attended Georgia College & State University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Health & Physical Education and a Masters degree in Instructional Technology.
After college he began teaching and coaching at Brentwood School in Sandersville, GA near Augusta. During his 9 years at Brentwood School he was the Varsity Boys Basketball coach. Coach Fleming led the Brentwood Varsity boys basketball teams to 2 region championships, a final four appearance, and earned Region Coach of the Year honors while being at Brentwood. He also spent one year at Greater Atlanta Christian School were he was a Varsity Assistant and 9th grade boys basketball coach.
As a native of Gwinnett County, Coach Fleming is extremely excited to return home and help the Berkmar Basketball Program continue their success. Coach Fleming currently serves as a Varsity assistant and 9th grade Coach for the Berkmar Boys Basketball program.
